WoW Moviewatch: Buddhist 3v3: Ming Must Die!

Warning: This video is longer than your average, and definitely includes language not suitable for the workplace. It’s not all potty-mouth, but it’s got some cursing and strange sounds.

Do you remember Insane Gouge Crits, by Buddhist? Well, the master of PvP Parody is back with another installment in the ongoing struggle to be Rogue Hokage. Behold Buddhist 3v3: Ming Must Die!

The love of Buddhist’s life (his soulmate, if you will) has been damaged by a rival rogue, Ming. Now, Buddhist and his 3v3 team must fight through Ming’s merciless minions to regain Cel’s power, and prove who is the true Rogue Hokage.

This video is parody of the PvP genre, and sticks its tongue firmly in cheek at the majority of rogue and PvP culture. It’s steeped with references and odd quirks, so it helps to have some knowledge of who’s who. Ming, for example, is actually a very well known blogger in “rogue society.” Serennia is a prominent Arena fighter, and was once hailed as the “best warrior in the world.” And if the dialogue from Ming seems funny after her initial confrontation wow goldwith Buddhist’s crew, check this video out about Swarm.

The video made me laugh. The stream could use a little better quality, but overall, I enjoyed this new installment. Mileage is going to vary, of course, but I enjoyed the irreverent, self-aware humor.

The Queue: Soul Shard parade

Welcome back to The Queue, WoW Insider’s daily Q&A column where the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

In yesterday’s intro, I mentioned WoW Insider’s April Fool’s joke. Sillily (it’s a word now), I didn’t actually include a link to it, and there were people writing that they had no idea that we even did a joke and couldn’t find it. Well, here it is! Now, let’s begin, shall we?

Sorano asked…

“In the Argent Tournament, is it possible to champion other cities than the ones attached to your race and faction? Could my Tauren Warrior try and earn the favor of Gnomeregan to obtain a sweet Mechano Strider? I’ve always wanted one of those for my tauren warrior.”

Your Tauren isn’t going to be able to get a Mechanostrider, sorry. You can only champion the races on your overall faction. In your case, you can only champion Horde races. You’ll need to do Tauren first, then when you’ve ‘finished’ with the Tauren you can choose to branch out to the others. At least, that’s how it worked when I was doing it on an earlier iteration of the PTR. I don’t think it’s changed, though.

Somewhat related to this question: There were people in the comments yesterday suggesting you couldn’t champion a race until you were Exalted with them, and that’s just not true. You don’t need to be Exalted with anyone here. In fact, part of the purpose of this event is to help you get Exalted with them without slaving away in the runecloth mines.

Doulmagnus asked…

“Is the same thing as the ammo bags gonna happen to the warlock soul shard bags since they are upping the base number of shards to 32, which is the biggest bag you can get right now for them. Is so, why make a pattern for the bag available only after grinding out Ebon Hand rep?”

The ammo change and the Soul Shard change are working in two entirely different ways. Soul Shards aren’t stacking differently like ammo. Soul Shards still stack one at a time, but you can only carry a maximum of 32 Soul Shards at a time. This is because they changed how Drain Soul works. You have a chance to generate a Soul Shard every time Drain Soul ticks, so if they didn’t put an upper limit on the number of shards you generate, your bags would fill up with them unless you had a mod deleting them all as they were created.

A raiding Warlock will probably still want to carry an Abyssal Bag around for extra room for all of the shards. The non-raiding non-PvPing warlock probably doesn’t need a big bag like that, because you probably don’t need 32 shards.

Jobu asked…

“I have a new question that I don’t think I’ve seen the answer to anywhere. Does the +10% XP bonus that the Bind on Account Heirloom shoulders give apply to leveling hunter pets? I’d like to get some confirmation before dropping the emblems on them. Thanks!”

I don’t think it applies to pet, but it’s nearly impossible to outlevel your Hunter pet these days, they need dramatically less XP than you do to level up. If you’re leveling your Hunter, yes, buy the Heirloom shoulders. They’re wonderful. If you’re a level 80 Hunter thinking about buying Heirloom shoulders for the purpose of leveling up new pets, no, it’s not worth it.

Gatherer Addon For World Of WarCraft

Sure, playing World of Warcraft is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but there’s one thing that can make the game even better. That is using addons to enhance your gameplay to the proverbial next level. The World of Warcraft Gatherer Addon is just such an addon that can make your gaming life easier.
Gatherer is a plug-in for World of Warcraft that will make your herbalist or miner life much easier. This little tool tracks the location of mines and herbs in the game and then displays an icon on the map so that you can find them faster and more easily.

Gatherer records all data on its own database, including the quality of each mine or herb found for later reference. This information will be very useful to improve your gathering skill and consequently earn more money by selling minerals and herbs.

Sounds just like what the doctor ordered, doesn’t it? Well then go grab it!

Breakfast Topic: Will work for Blizz

I’ve often thought I’d do just about anything to work at Blizzard. I mean, with offices that look like this, working on one of your favorite games – who wouldn’t? But then I think about my many years spent in the trenches as both rep and management at various IT/Internet jobs, and I’m no longer sure that I’d do anything to work there. You see, the one group I don’t envy are those on the front lines of customer service. Much like the story from Thursday in which we learned about a rep having to deal with a kid and his suicide threat when he ostensibly didn’t get what he wanted, CSRs, GMs and CMs deal with very frustrating situations every day.

But there again, it is Blizzard, and I’d be lying if I said most people I know wouldn’t give their [insert requisite body part] to work there, just to experience the culture and be part of the company that makes some truly awesome games. The sheer coolness of the company and a lot of their outward facing policies seems like being part of that team would more than make up for any abuse you might get as a trade-off. How about you? Would you be willing to step onto the front lines, taking every nasty, mean comment you’re dealt with a smile – or carefully constructed snark? Would you be willing to work at Blizzard on the front lines? Or is that a bit too much of a figurative bulls-eye than you’d want painted on yourself?

Ask a Beta Tester: Zul’Drak and more

by Alex Ziebart

Nov 6th, 2008

Welcome to yet another edition of Ask a Beta Tester. We’re coming to you a little later in the day than we usually do, but I think getting the site’s redesign up was worth it! It’s sparkly, isn’t it? We only have a little under a week of Ask a Beta Tester left, so let’s make the best of the time we have and get started!

Nick S asked…

Is there any lore for the Trolls? I’ve seen very, very little that’s not negative. Where’s the Troll lovin’?!?

Unfortunately, I’m primarily Alliance and didn’t see much from the Horde beyond the first couple of zones, so I’m not really sure about the Darkspear. Zul’Drak has a whole load of Troll content, though. It’s an entire Troll zone centered on the last Troll Empire, the Drakkari. There’s also the return of the Zandalar Trolls, who are much more friendly. You might have met them back when Zul’Gurub was run frequently. They’re there to document the fall of the Drakkari and prevent them from doing something really, really bad.

The zone is actually very awesome, and coming from someone who was sick of Troll dungeons, Zul’drak pulled me right into the story. As you progress through the zone you see the Drakkari become more desperate, and as you get closer to the capital their depravity gets worse and worse. It’s very well done. That picture up there isn’t Zul’Drak, just in case you were wondering. It’s Sholazar Basin.

J. asked…

As we’re winding down on questions, I’m sure this has been covered (and I’ve missed it): do the 10-man and 25-man instances have separate raid IDs? For example, could I run a 25-man Naxx with the guild and turn right around and run the 10-man? Or, if you run one, are you stuck until they reset?

They do have separate raid IDs, so you most certainly can run both back to back.

timmy! asked…

If you champion for faction B and after you just championed for faction A, and faction A catches you wearing faction B’s tabard, will you lose rep with faction A for “cheating” on them?

…No. Good deeds are good. The Argent Crusade won’t mind that you smashed Scourge in the name of the Wyrmrest Accord.

Enyad asked…

I heard from a friend that Blues went back and said the championing would be allowed for old school reps (Timbermaw, AD, CC etc) in level 80 instances. How true is that, if it is? Or is it just like I’ve been reading for only Northrend factions?

As far as I know, it’s not true at all. It’s just Northrend factions. Knights of the Ebon Blade, Kirin Tor, Argent Crusade, and the Wyrmrest Accord. Maybe we’ll see it in the future but I haven’t heard anything like that since before Championing was even implemented.

ithobbit asked…

Taking a cue from the starting zone quests questions, I am a lore freak, would it be possible (or feasible) to do the quests on BOTH starting Areas at some point?

Absolutely. If you’re not worried about trucking along straight to Icecrown or whatever, you can certainly clear out Howling Fjord and then hop a turtle to the Borean Tundra or vice versa. Or you can go back at 80, or you can bring an alt over. Starting in the Tundra doesn’t block you off from the Fjord at all.

Ella asked…

Can you give us a short list on what instances there are in northrend, and at what approximately level you should attend to these? I don’t want to miss any.

We’ll have a nice, clean list for you before Wrath launches, more in-depth than I could give here. Keep an eye on the site!

WoW: 1,000,000 Chinese Playing Concurrently

Chinese game operator, The9 reported today that one MILLION mainland Chinese were concurrently playing World of Warcraft at the same time. Doubtless the assumption can be made that many are gold/item farmers but it’s an achievement nonetheless:

Shanghai, China – April 11, 2008. The9 Limited (NASDAQ: NCTY) (“The9″), a leading online game operator in China, today announced that Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, the subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) has achieved a record peak concurrency of 1 million, the highest concurrency since the game’s commercial launch in June 2005, following the launch of its new expansion pack, World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, in mainland China on September 6, 2007.
