Blue posters in the official forums have started leaving comments about the earthquakes happening in-game, which as we reported the other day, appear to be linked to in-game mobs that are potentially ushering in the beginning of the Cataclysm world event.

The comments are somewhat cryptic, but that is par for the course with Blizzard. They like to tease — to hold the carrot in front of you and make you run for it. But the evidence we presented Monday was pretty solid, and it’s gained even more traction in the community and around the net; so this is an interesting follow up to it all.

The comments thus far after the break.
Wryxian says in response to “Did Any of you saw that? There was a shake in Dalaran…. Is this the beginning of the Cata Pre event?…Or was it just me?”:

It was just you. Seriously, earthquakes leading up to some kind of cataclysm? I lol’d.

The Kirin Tor want to ensure that even though their city is no longer actually in the ground anymore, it still receives the same treatment as the rest of Azeroth… or something. ;-)
We try not to read into blue comments too much, since reading in-between the lines can be a crap shoot sometimes. But in this case we think it’s notable enough, especially with the absence of Blizzard outright denying any linkage, that it’s worth bringing to everyone’s attention. Read into it what you will, but we think the meaning of Wryxian’s comments are quite clear: there is some linkage between the earthquakes and “some kind of cataclysm.”

There is some confusion as to whether/how the Dungeon Finder matches characters according to internal gear score. To the best of my knowledge, it actually attempt to create a discrepancy between characters’ gear, so that you’re likely to wind up with a few heavily geared members ‘carrying’ lesser-geared members. This is directly contrary to a claim I’ve seen circulating that the system attempts to match internal gear scores.

If the system doesn’t attempt to create disparate groups, it should, and if it does, I’m glad it does. It may be disheartening to see someone in your group in full blues or maybe even a couple greens, instead of the now-familiar suit o’ purples, but as some commenters pointed out in my post on Dungeon Finder bingo, we all started out in blues and greens at 80 (with the possible exception of some crafted gear and BoEs), and heroics were designed to be run with that gear. Where are the epics supposed to come from, for a pre-raid character?

Furthermore, a less-geared character might actually need some of the gear that drops in the ilvl 200 heroics (i.e. everything except CC, FoS, PoS, and HoR), which is a nice change of pace from the usual shardfest. It may take you a few extra minutes to farm your emblems, but PuGs are about more than just you: they’re about a group of people coming together to help each other out, and enjoy a dungeon.

Many of you asked…

How am I going to do the Kalu’ak Fishing Derby when I raid at 8pm on Wednesday night?

Unfortunately unless your raid cancels or you sit, you’re not going to be able to do it. Yes, it’s not the ideal situation for you. But think of the people who are never able make Sunday’s fishing contest down in Booty Bay; hopefully Wednesday night will work for them. Either way, both events are optional, and having two events means people have greater choices.

The selection of 8pm on Wednesday wasn’t a slight on you, it was to help others out. Remember that around 12 million people play the game, only a handful of those raiding every week at 8pm on Wednesday (even if that handful is loud and proud).

Zetathran asked…

In battlegrounds I see a (*) after people’s name/guild name. What’s up with that?

You see that when you’re in a battleground, arena, or the soon-to-come cross server instances. It means you’re viewing a person from a different server.

Orkchop asked…

Do you know how well WoW will run on Windows 7? Should I wait before upgrading from Vista?

Windows 7 runs great with WoW. I’ve been using it since the free release candidate version a few months ago, and I’ve never had anything but a great experience. It is miles beyond what Vista was on its best days. You should upgrade, and there’s really no reason not to upgrade now.

Some people will claim that you should wait a few patch cycles before making the switch, and while that might have been true for other iterations of Windows, it’s not for Windows 7.

I’ve also written earlier about my experiences with WoW and Windows 7, which offers a bit more insight into this.

Abandon asked…

What’s the deal lately with all the bogus comments with links? Can someone post a link to a keylogging site like this?

We get a ton of comments. When we see something or have it reported by you all (click the little “!” button in the comment), we take care of it. I enjoy swinging my banhammer at those sites.

So. Big news guys: The Three Worgen Moon Shirt is here. Seriously. The Shirt that will change your life, I kid you not. I ordered mine, and I have already sensed the presence of beautiful women gravitating toward the aura of self-assurance and wildness created around me by the very decision made to purchase the shirt.

Nah, but seriously. There’s been stuff going on this weekend.
